Biodiesel: India’s misguided policy to achieve energy security

India is facing and will continue to face extreme energy shortages. The population is estimated to grow to over 1.6 billion people by 2050. Increased population and expanding economic activities will require more energy and efficient use. Energy consumption per capita increases with development. On average, an Indian’s daily consumption of energy is approximately 9% of the energy consumption of an average American and 30% of that of an average Chinese.
