This book goes on to describe the contributions of Leonardo da Vinci, Bernard Palissy and Benedetto Castelli, and the experimental investigations of Pierre Perrault, Edmé Mariotte and Edmond Halley in the seventeenth century, which heralded the beginning of a new era in hydrology. Later chapters deal with the contributions of the English, Italian and French Schools to the various aspects of the hydrologic cycle and measurements of precipitation, streamflow and evaporation. The final chapter covers all the major developments of the nineteenth century.
