Special Session on Future of World’s Water in 2025 and Beyond

World is changing very fast but the water profession and management practices are changing only slowly and incrementally. Already there are very significant mismatches between these two developments. These differences will increase even further unless the water profession embraces “business unusual” solutions. For the last 30 years, the profession has been saying “business as usual” is not a solution but has behaved as if there are no other alternatives.

In order to analyse the Future of World’s Water in 2025 and Beyond, the Third World Centre for Water Management, Mexico, Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, Singapore, Middle East Technical University, Ankara, and the International Water Resources Association, organised a special session on this topic during the 2012 World Water Forum in Marseille. It consisted of eminent personalities from both public and private sectors. It first considered what changes can be expected beyond 2025, and then discussed a possible roadmap on how best to respond to such developments.
