The workshop focused on three inundation related issues: resettlement, production of greenhouse gases from reservoirs and preservation of archeological treasures.
The objectives of the workshop were to assess objectively and dispassionately the experiences from different parts of the world on inundation-related issues to learn the lessons from the past, in terms of what were the strengths and weaknesses of the various processes and practices, and what were the constraints faced and how these were overcome. The participants from different parts of the world, discussed possible roadmaps for future progress in these areas.
The workshop was held at the Regional Centre for Training and Water Studies (RCTWS), 6 October City, Egypt. It was organized by the Third World Centre for Water Management and the International Hydropower Association, with the support of the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development, Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of Egypt, International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage, Arab Water Council and International Water Resources Association.
